Luci’s late lamented cushion

Once upon a time I was
a cushion, whole
cynosure of eyes
robed in eye-catching red
I hung out with cronies
on sofas, chairs and clean beds.
Then for a chweet little pup
I became a pillow.
But, mauled and chewed
dragged through dirt
bitten and shaken uncontrollably
into a shapeless mass, I was transformed.
Disrobed by sharp, strong teeth
disintegrated into fragments
today, I became just another statistic
of the canine terror everyone calls Luci.
